A Trip to Low Country

Low Country is the coastal region of South Carolina that is know for its natural beauty and unique cultural heritage. It’s no wonder that it holds such a great appeal for bestselling authors such as Dorthea Benton Frank and Anne Rivers Siddons. There are wonderful historic communities, marsh lands, islands and huge oak trees dripping with moss. I thought I would share some photos of a recent trip there.

I thought it would be fun to start sharing some of my favorite blogs with you. They are the ones that I read on a regular basis, ones that I feel really stand out in a crowd. The first one I want to share is For the Love of a House. It is a wonderful look into the ongoing journey of a couple who are redoing an old New Hampshire farmhouse. Joan has a beautiful sense of style and shares a great look behind the scenes. So, if you love old houses, remodeling projects and beautiful decor stop by for a quick peek and you’ll be hooked. I love cottage style bathrooms! Here are a few of my favorites on Pinterest right now. I love the bead board details and mint or aqua paint.

A beautiful chandelier or antique mirror is a great look for this type of bathroom.

How about a great rack to display your favorite perfume bottles?

Sheer curtains add a dreamy effect.

And of course we need a claw foot tub to relax in!

Here are some gorgeous shots of how to make your home office stylish and functional. The first picture shows how a simple piece of furniture can be stylish when it is accented by textures: the shades, drapes and art all work together to make the area special.

This desk has a pop of color with fresh flowers and the clear chair adds a bit of the unexpected.

These drapes have all the attention in this next picture. A bold print draws your eye to the area.

Hang pretty art work or colorful wallpaper.

Mix light and dark wood together to make your office area more interesting.

Even if you don’t have room for a home office you can always create one in an unexpected spot, such as the area between closets, or the area under a dormer window.

Styling bookshelves

I’m always looking for ways to make the bookshelves in my home more interesting. I think it’s a great idea to mix textures, such as woven baskets and smooth pottery pieces. Or, try leaning art work or family portraits in the background and place some of your favorite collectables up front and center.

Apothecary jars are great to use! You can fill them with shells or potpourri.

Mercury glass and pewter are always a great way to add a bit of form and interest.

You could also use items in the same color family for a soothing effect.

So, now are you ready to tackle that bookshelf?
